James felt a prickly sensation crawl up his spine. He'd arranged to meet his girlfriend, Karen, at the art gallery. He found her, alright, but she was deep in conversation with another man, her hand resting affectionately on his arm.

He took a step backward, nearly tripping over a sculpture. Confusion warred with a rising tide of fury. He’d confessed his undying love to Karen just last week.

His vision tunnelled. He could hardly breathe. He felt the cold sweat on his forehead. Karen was laughing, oblivious to his presence, and James felt his world shrink.
