The romantic ambiance of the dimly lit jazz club vanished in an instant. Mark had been patiently waiting for Sarah, tapping his foot, when he saw her arrive with someone else. His heart stopped.

The man had his arm around Sarah’s waist. They were laughing. They looked intimate. Mark felt a sudden, inexplicable rush of blood to his head, a burning sensation that left him breathless.

He felt as though he was plummeting from a great height. He backed away from the table, desperate to escape the scene that was unfolding before him. He just wanted to get out.
