Gemotions

Agnes hummed, expertly rolling the dough for her signature apple tart. She glanced at the television, where a celebrity chef, Jean-Pierre Dubois, was demonstrating his "Pomme Extase." A wave of dizziness washed over her. It was...her recipe. Every spice, every measurement, down to the sliver of lemon zest, was hers. Her hands stopped moving, flour dusting the air. She sat heavily on her stool, her stomach churning.

She had submitted the recipe years ago, to a baking competition. He had been a judge. She hadn't won. The tart, now on national television, was not hers. A knot tightened in her chest. She had to sit down.

The aroma of her own creation, now called something else, filled her kitchen, a cruel parody. She felt her face flush, heat prickling her skin. The urge to yell bubbled in her throat.
