The phone vibrated on the bedside table. *Incoming call from: Unknown*. Maria stared at the screen, her grip tightening on the sheets. Her DNA test results had come back with a match, a sister she never knew existed.

She answered the call, her voice a near whisper. The voice on the other end, hesitant at first, then gaining strength, spilled out a story that was a foreign language to her. Tales of another life, another family.

Tears welled in her eyes. She gripped the phone, her knuckles turning white. The gentle morning light seemed to mock her, casting long shadows across her bedroom. She felt both empty and overwhelmed.
