The news hit her like a physical blow. Sarah slumped back in her chair, the letter falling from her grasp. Her eyes widened, and her lips parted slightly, forming a silent "O." Her skin prickled.

She stared, unseeing, at the familiar landscape of her room, now transformed into a strange and alien place. She felt as though the ground had fallen away beneath her feet.

She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fight back the tears that threatened to spill. The world, which had seemed so promising just a short time before, now felt fragile and treacherous.
