Her spoon clattered against the ceramic bowl. "A cat, maybe?" Rachel said the words as if they were the most innocuous suggestion in the world. But for Sarah, it was a declaration of war. A cat? The woman who couldn’t stand a hair out of place, who obsessed over cleanliness and order?

Sarah felt her cheeks flush. A wave of heat washed over her, and she suddenly felt a need to sit down. Everything seemed to be spinning. She took a deep breath.

"A… cat?" she asked, her voice shaky. The mere thought of cat hair, cat scratches, and cat… things… in their pristine apartment made her want to flee.
