The small coffee shop, a sanctuary for quiet contemplation, was where Liam had retreated after a particularly brutal rejection. He was lost in the quiet strumming of his guitar, when he heard it. The opening bars of “Lost at Sea,” a song he’d penned during a period of intense loneliness. It was coming from a speaker.

His head lifted, his gaze darting around the small space. His fingers froze on the strings. It was a cover version, a gentle, acoustic rendition by a singer with a soothing voice. The rendition was… well, heartbreaking. He hadn’t felt this feeling in a long time.

He closed his eyes, listening to the song. He felt a sting behind his eyes, a strange combination of pride and… something else. Something he wasn't sure he could name.
