Gemotions

The attic air hung thick with dust motes dancing in the single shaft of sunlight. Amelia coughed, waving a hand in front of her face as she delved deeper into the trunk. Her grandmother's belongings. Boxes overflowing with memories. It was supposed to be a simple decluttering exercise, helping her mother. Then she found the photographs.

A gasp escaped her. She hadn't been expecting this. A woman, undeniably her grandmother, stood grinning next to a man who was most definitely *not* her grandfather. They were arm in arm, laughing, at a beach she'd never seen before. Her grandmother always said she'd only ever loved one man. The man in the other picture was no different - a stranger with a loving look.

She sank onto the dusty floor, the photos clutched tightly in her hands. Her heart hammered against her ribs. The idyllic image of her grandmother as a faithful and pious woman was crumbling before her eyes.
