The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Eleanor’s throat as she hauled down a box labeled "Memories: Don't Look Inside Yet!" Her heart gave a sudden thump. She’d been avoiding this for years. Inside, nestled amongst moth-eaten shawls and chipped porcelain dolls, was a bundle of letters tied with a faded ribbon. One, addressed in her youthful, looping script, was meant for her mother. Eleanor's breath hitched. She hadn't a clue she’d ever written this.

She unfolded the paper, its creases whispering secrets from decades past. The childish scrawl detailed anxieties about a school play, a crush on a boy with dimples, and a yearning for her mother's approval. A sharp pang of remembrance struck her as she read the pleading words. Her hand flew to her mouth, stifling a small gasp. The words felt raw, vulnerable, like a wound reopened.
