The abrupt halt of the elevator sent a tremor through his system. Michael stared at the ceiling, his jaw slack. He, a man known for his unflappable calm, found himself… unnerved. He was trapped with Jessica. This was going to be an experience.

He had a presentation in an hour. Now, that was completely out of the question. He closed his eyes briefly, then opened them. He glanced at Jessica, who was trying to stifle a cough. He wondered if she was as affected by this as he was.

He cleared his throat. The silence was deafening. He felt a sudden, irrational need to get out. He reached for his phone, remembering it was useless in this situation. He sighed. This was not how he wanted to spend his afternoon.
