The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small kitchen, a smell that had always been a comfort to Martha. She'd spent countless hours kneading dough, her hands becoming a familiar dance with the yeast and flour. Now, watching her ten-year-old daughter, Lily, meticulously measuring ingredients, Martha felt a peculiar fluttering in her chest.

Lily’s brow was furrowed in concentration as she consulted Martha's ancient, flour-dusted cookbook.
