Gemotions

The sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. My brother, Finn, tapped his foot impatiently as the solicitor began to read the will. The grand Victorian on the hill, overlooking the ocean, was the legacy we’d both been counting on. I held my breath, my fingers intertwined.

"The entire estate," the solicitor stated, "is left to Mr. Finn." My world tilted. I felt a sudden rush of warmth and a tingling sensation in my extremities.

"And Miss Maya receives… a lifetime subscription to a magazine about competitive bird watching." Finn looked at me, a mixture of disbelief and amusement in his eyes.

I could only choke out a single, strangled, "What?"
