The email arrived like a punch to the gut. Subject: "New Listing." He hadn't been expecting any new listings. He certainly wasn't expecting this one. He'd been clicking through real estate listings because he was bored when he saw the headline. His parents’ house.

He leaned back in his chair, suddenly unable to focus on his work. The air seemed thin, as if he’d forgotten how to breathe. The walls of his office felt like they were closing in. He felt a deep hollowness inside, a sensation he couldn't quite define.

He had to get out. He grabbed his keys and jacket, the urgency a tight knot in his stomach. He needed air.
