The news hit Michael like a physical blow. He'd been scrolling through the listings, looking for a project, when he saw it. The house on Willow Creek Lane. The house where he’d learned to ride his bike, where he'd had his first kiss. For sale.

He felt the blood drain from his face. He sat there, stunned, the air thick with unspoken emotions. His breath quickened, shallow and rapid. He stared at the pictures, each one a pang of something he couldn't name.

He had to see it. He grabbed his car keys and bolted out the door.
