The antique dealer, a jovial man usually, became uncharacteristically subdued. He cleared his throat, pushing his glasses up his nose. “The previous owner… well, he wasn’t forthcoming about the history.” Sarah’s breath hitched. She’d always loved the kitchen, the way the sunlight illuminated the vintage tile. Now, the tile seemed to pulse with an unseen energy. A wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the edge of the kitchen counter, her knuckles turning white. She’d been so proud of her new house, so excited to start a new chapter. The chapter was already starting to feel… tainted.
