Gemotions

The air left her lungs in a whoosh. Maria watched, dumbfounded, as Mrs. Gable, the woman who complained about the rising cost of groceries, emerged from a sprawling mansion down the street. The mansion had been sold to a mysterious buyer a few weeks back. Mrs. Gable was now chatting with someone at the front gate, apparently the new owner. Maria felt a cold prickle along her spine. She'd always envied Mrs. Gable's apparent frugality, never realizing the source of it. She slowly sat down on her porch swing, suddenly very tired.
