Gemotions

Rain lashed against the attic window as Martha ran her hand through the musty contents of the trunk. She hadn't been up here in ages. The air hung thick with dust motes and forgotten memories. She stumbled upon a small, wooden box tied with a faded ribbon. Picking it up, she shook it gently, hearing the clink of something inside. Her breath caught in her throat.

She unwound the ribbon. The box creaked as she opened it. Inside, a collection of marbles, each one a swirling galaxy of color, stared back at her. She felt an odd chill. She didn't recognize any of this, not a single piece. The feeling was a strange flutter in her chest. A deep sense of disorientation swamped her.
