He nearly dropped the mail, the flimsy paper suddenly feeling like lead in his fingers. "Condominium Conversion - Important Information Inside." That was all it took. Mark felt his stomach drop.

He retreated into his apartment, slamming the door. The familiar scent of old books and brewing tea did little to comfort him. He felt…disoriented.

Mark paced the worn wooden floorboards, his steps quick and uneven. He’d just finished redecorating, painting the living room a soothing shade of blue. All that effort... He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands.

He stared out the window, at the bustling street below. Everything was changing. He felt the cold seep into his bones.
