The “B” in her psychology class was not at all what she had predicted. She had always gotten As. She reread the professor's comments, but they were vague and unhelpful. She felt betrayed.

She sat in the library, rereading her paper. She'd spent weeks researching, and writing. The research included a controversial topic, one that touched on the professor’s own area of expertise. She had a memory of the professor’s icy demeanor during her presentation.

A wave of heat surged through her. It was a physical sensation, an eruption of frustration. She looked around, suddenly unsure of who to trust, as if someone was watching her. The silence of the library became oppressive.
