The coffee shop buzzed around Maya, but her focus was locked on the young man across from her. He nervously rolled up his sleeve, revealing her delicate watercolor rose, blossoming on his bicep. She found herself instinctively smoothing the imaginary petal on the paper he was sitting at, her fingers a phantom caress.

He looked so young, barely out of his teens. She could see the vulnerability in his eyes. He stammered a few words about how much the piece meant to him, how it reminded him of his grandmother. He was the most beautiful blossom. Her throat tightened, and she found it difficult to speak, just wanting to ensure he was ok.
