Gemotions

The art gallery was crowded, the air thick with the murmur of conversation. Among the framed artwork of his niece's latest exhibition, he found one that brought him to a standstill. It showed a small girl, holding hands with a bright, shining bird.

He felt a pang in his chest. “Celeste.” His imaginary friend. He remembered the comfort Celeste offered.

He felt a sudden, sharp clarity. He knew all about those difficult days, when he was alone, when he needed someone.

He sought out his niece, Sarah. He didn't say anything, but put his arm around her. Her artwork was beautiful, and she was happy. And he would always be there to support her.
