Gemotions

The announcement crackled over the intercom, “David Miller, please report to the goalie coach.” A collective murmur went through the soccer team. David, the star striker, felt his chest constrict. He knew what this meant. He’d heard the whispers about their goalie being out with an injury.

He saw the faces of his teammates, a mixture of concern and encouragement, as he walked towards the field. He always got along with the goalie, a quiet kid named Sam who was now injured, David assumed.

He imagined the grueling practices, the different techniques to be learned. The thought of all that training filled him with a strange mix of apprehension and duty.
