The airport felt like a purgatory to David. His grandfather’s ninetieth birthday celebration, a milestone he was desperate not to miss. The thought of his grandfather, sitting patiently, waiting for him, brought a fresh wave of despair.

He sat on a bench, observing the crowds, the rushing feet, the anxious faces. A young child, seated nearby, began to cry. David instinctively reached into his pocket and pulled out a small candy bar.

He offered it to the boy, who took it shyly. The brief exchange, a gesture of kindness, momentarily broke through the crushing weight of his own disappointment. He felt a small wave of calmness.
