"Wow," Mark breathed, staring at the sheer volume of papers arrayed on the living room floor. His father, a man of few words, simply nodded, his face unreadable. Mark had been tasked with sorting through his mother's keepsakes.

He came across a series of art projects, from stick figures drawn in crayon to detailed watercolor paintings from high school. Each piece was a glimpse into his mother's evolving creativity.

A wave of emotions crashed over him. He had always known his mother was a creative soul, but seeing it all laid out, the evidence of her efforts. He looked at his father. He understood a little more, now.
