The bright lights of the stadium felt blinding. Jake remained standing in the shadow of the stadium, watching the celebration. He knew all the other players. He’d trained with them, sweat with them, dreamed with them. Now, he was outside, alone.

He felt the weight of the crowd's excitement against him. It made him feel more isolated. He wanted to scream.

He started walking home. The streetlights blurred as tears began to roll down his cheeks. He pulled his jacket tight, trying to hold his composure.
