The air in the break room was thick with the scent of stale coffee and unspoken anxieties. Maria watched as Thomas, her old coworker, cleared out his locker. She hadn't been in the department long, but she had quickly grown to like the man. He was always there to offer a helping hand or a friendly joke. Now, he was moving to the dreaded customer service department. She felt a surge of… something. She looked at his face and knew the new role was not something he wanted.
