He found the announcement on Facebook, a simple post from the restaurant itself. Michael felt a peculiar hollowness in his chest. He reread the words: “Thank you for the years of support…” He let out a sigh.

He remembered his first date with Sarah there. They’d sat in a booth, giggling over the oversized menus, both too nervous to eat properly. The greasy smell of the burgers seemed to transport him back in time. Now, Sarah was long gone, but the restaurant, The Burger Barn, remained a tangible link to that memory.

He imagined the owner, old Mr. Henderson, a man who always wore a stained apron and a perpetually tired expression. Michael remembered his own grandfather. The thought of Mr. Henderson losing his livelihood caused a tightening in his throat.
