Gemotions

The wind whipped through the yard, scattering leaves and dust. Amongst the assorted items, I saw him. Chester. His fur was thin, and his once-gleaming eyes were cloudy. The sight of him, unloved and discarded, struck a chord deep within me. I remembered countless hours spent together, the shared laughter, the silent comfort.

I walked toward the box of toys, my heart pounding. I picked up Chester, cradling him gently. He was so small, so fragile. I turned to the woman in charge.

"How much for him?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. The woman named a price. Without hesitation, I reached for my wallet, already knowing that I would give Chester a place of honor once more.
