Gemotions

The card was tucked between a bank statement and a pizza coupon. Sarah held it, the weight of it surprisingly heavy in her hand. It was a child's handwriting, wobbly and uneven, on the inside, and a picture of a cat on the front. Her throat tightened.

Her own son was far away, studying in another country. It had been months since she’d received a physical letter. Her fingers traced the lines of the cat drawing. A pang hit her. She would have to call her son today. She smiled a little. He’d probably forgotten.
