Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows as Chloe pulled the mail from the box. The card was small, almost lost amongst the bills. It was a simple design, a single, perfect rose. She held it close, the paper rough against her skin. A warmth spread throughout her core.

She thought of her neighbor, who had just lost their spouse. Chloe had seen the neighbor alone. She went inside and grabbed a small vase. She filled it with water and went back outside to the neighbor’s house, the rose card clutched in her other hand.
