Gemotions

He crouched in the cramped space, the air thick with the smell of decay and forgotten things. The hidden room, revealed by a loose brick in the basement, contained nothing but an old, wooden chest. Thomas hesitated, then slowly lifted the lid. Inside, nestled amongst moth-eaten fabric, lay a collection of letters. He pulled one out; the paper crumbled at his touch. They were love letters, filled with promises and the yearning of a long-ago romance. A tremor passed through him as he read the fading ink, a portrait of lost affection. He closed the chest, the weight of their unspoken hopes settling in his stomach.
