Gemotions

The reunion invitation was tucked beneath a pile of bills. He found it when he was looking for a check. Kevin ran his fingers through his hair. He hadn’t thought about his past in a long time.

He felt the familiar ache in his shoulder. The dull throb was a constant companion these days. He was not as young as he once was. He had aged, hardened.

He thought about Emily, the girl who had always been so bright and full of life. He had been cruel to her. He had been insensitive. He remembered the look in her eyes.

He slowly ripped the invitation in half. He felt a sting in his eyes. He wished he could go back, to fix things. He couldn’t, of course.
