From his tiny apartment window, old Arthur watched the grand opening of "Bella's Biscotti Bar." The aroma of anise and almonds, identical to his late wife, Bella's, recipe, drifted to him. He remembered the love she put into the baking.

He felt the sting of a tear in his eye. He hadn't been to that bakery. He couldn't. It felt too raw. The building, previously vacant, had become a thriving business.

He felt his shoulders slump. He missed her. The biscotti, her special touch, were supposed to have remained a treasure only he and she knew. He clutched at the lapel of his old coat. The memory of her smile was all that was left.
