Gemotions

The rhythmic thump of the basketball against the pavement was a familiar soundtrack to Leo's evenings. Today, however, the familiar sounds were a jarring contrast to the sight of a black lab, Shadow, squeezing through the gap in the fence.

Leo put the basketball down, a frown etching itself onto his face. He knew the owners; hardworking people, always doing their best. He noticed them trying to fix it a few weeks back.

He crouched down, calling softly, "Hey, Shadow. Come here, boy." He waited patiently. It couldn't be helped, he understood.

He felt for the dog, the desire for freedom, the longing for a space to run.
