The radio blared from the car’s speakers, a mindless pop song, until the opening chords of his song, "Lost at Sea," filled the space. Thomas had written it after a particularly brutal breakup. He knew the song well.

He pulled over to the side of the road, ignoring the irritated honks from the car behind him. The singer's voice was different, sweeter, but there was an unexpected depth to the interpretation that made his chest squeeze.

He rested his forehead against the steering wheel. He knew the pain of the lost at sea.
