A cold dread seeped into Leo as he read the announcement. His stomach clenched. He'd poured his heart into this company, into his team. He'd mentored them, fought for their raises, celebrated their successes.

He closed his laptop, the screen reflecting his own drawn face. He thought of Sarah, the young intern he’d just taken under his wing, excited about her future in marketing. He thought of David, the single father, who talked about needing this job to feed his kids.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture conveying his distress. What would happen to them? He wanted to help, he had to. He started to formulate a plan to see who he could speak to, to advocate for his coworkers, even if it meant risking his own position.
