Gemotions

The relentless thrum of the sewing machine echoed in the small apartment. For years, it had been a comforting background noise to Amelia, a soundtrack to her creative process. Now, it accompanied a younger, more eager performer.

Her daughter, eight-year-old Chloe, was on a fashion design kick, inspired by Amelia’s own passion. Chloe was constantly pulling out patterns and fabric scraps. Amelia, who'd always thought of her sewing as a private enterprise, found herself standing nearby, watching her daughter's frantic efforts.

Chloe's room was now a riot of colorful fabric remnants and half-finished garments. Amelia knew Chloe would inevitably make mistakes, waste fabric, and be disappointed with her results. She remembered all of it. A small frown wrinkled Amelia’s forehead.

One morning, Amelia awoke to find Chloe sketching at the kitchen table.

"Can you help me with this sleeve, Mom?" Chloe asked, barely looking up.

Amelia’s eyes went soft. “Yes, darling. Of course.”
