Gemotions

I always loved the house. The way the sun hit the windows in the afternoon, the smell of the old wood. Now, the detective’s words echoed in my ears: "A kidnapping, right here." The chilling details, the forced entry, the desperate pleas... they haunted my every thought.

I looked at the oak floors, the very place where the struggle occurred, the place where the victim's life was turned upside down. My hands trembled as I ran them along the surface. I realized how fragile life was, and how easily it could be destroyed.

I started leaving the front door unlocked, offering food and water to any stranger who looked in need. I don't know why, but I felt a burning need to restore safety to these walls.
