The phone call had come out of the blue. "Is this Emily?" The voice was hesitant, female. "I'm calling about your father." Then, the bombshell: a half-sister, now a young woman named Sophie.

Emily found herself lost, as if her world had been tilted on its axis. She sat on her couch, numb, staring at her hands. The thought of a sister, a complete stranger, felt both terrifying and… intriguing.

She picked up the phone again, her fingers fumbling with the keys. She had to know more. She had to hear Sophie's voice.
