Mr. Davies was wrestling with the school budget. Another round of cuts meant sacrificing resources for his struggling students. He’d poured over spreadsheets all day, the weight of the situation settling heavy on his shoulders. He reached for a glass of water, knocking over a small, wrapped gift on his desk. He hadn’t noticed it before.

He unwrapped it. It was a framed photograph of a butterfly garden. He squinted at the attached card. “Thank you for helping me find my wings. – Sarah”. Sarah, who had blossomed from a shy, withdrawn student to a confident young woman. He closed his eyes, inhaling slowly. He felt the tension ease slightly from his shoulders. He picked up the phone to call his wife.
