A wave of nausea washed over me as I read the announcement. The carefully worded sentences, full of bureaucratic jargon, couldn't hide the core truth: the university was finished. I saw the faces of the students, their futures now cast into uncertainty.

My gaze drifted to the photograph on my desk, a picture of my roommate from freshman year. We’d shared so many dreams, so many anxieties. What had happened to those dreams? A feeling of profound unease stirred within me.

I pictured the elderly groundskeeper, Mr. Peterson, who always waved hello and told the same corny jokes. He'd been here for fifty years. How many lives would this affect? I needed to sit down, I thought as I quickly got out of my seat.
