The ballet instructor clapped her hands, the sound sharp and demanding. "Clara, you will be partnering with Michael for the pas de deux." Clara’s cheeks burned. Her usual graceful movements felt heavy, clumsy. She had always excelled at solo work, her strength and precision her trademarks.

Her palms began to sweat. Michael, with his effortless elegance, was the perfect partner. She, on the other hand, felt a strange disconnect between her mind and her body, as if she were piloting a machine.

She shifted her weight from foot to foot, avoiding Michael's gaze. The music, which usually invigorated her, now felt like a relentless clock, counting down to her inevitable failure. She had to master this – but how?
