Gemotions

The air conditioning hummed, a monotonous drone that did little to alleviate the heat creeping up her neck. She pushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear, her fingers trembling slightly. The office, usually a place of familiarity, felt alien and hostile. The fluorescent lights overhead seemed to buzz with a relentless intensity. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, a small, unwelcome tremor. She read the message, her lips thinning into a tight line. It was over, before it had even begun.
