He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it a mess. The invitation lay on his desk, mocking him. Liam glanced at it again, his jaw clenching. He picked it up, then immediately put it back down, as if it had burned him.

His gaze flicked to the calendar. Next month. He'd have to make travel arrangements, book a hotel, find something to wear… the thought of it overwhelmed him.

He got up from his chair and began to pace. The room felt small, the walls closing in. He felt a throbbing in his temples. He needed to be somewhere else, anywhere else. He grabbed his keys and left without a word.
