Gemotions

The aroma of freshly roasted coffee, normally a comfort, now filled the air with a bitter tang. David felt a pressure building behind his eyes as he walked towards the cafe. His own cafe. He had seen the new sandwich board outside. "The Famous Farmer's Feast! A Cafe Favorite!" His own menu item, the "David's Delicious Dagwood," was now attributed to the cafe owner, a man he hardly knew.

He tried to keep his face blank as he approached the counter, but the muscles in his jaw were locked. He felt his pulse quicken as he saw them handing out samples.

He ordered a coffee, and then stared blankly at the steaming mug. He wanted to throw it, to shatter it, to make some kind of impact, but the thought remained, a silent scream.
