The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, now felt like a taunt. Noah watched, rigid, as his roommate, Sam, poured a cup, seemingly oblivious to the invisible chasm that had opened between them. His journal lay open, the pages exposed.

He picked at the loose threads on the couch, desperate for some kind of release for the energy that was building up inside him. His hands trembled. He felt trapped. He needed to know, but he was afraid of what he would find out.

"Need any help with that, Sam?" he asked, his voice sounding hollow. Sam just nodded, not meeting his eyes. The tension was almost unbearable.
