Liam was driving, but the landscape was a blur. The highway signs seemed to twist and contort, the passing cars morphing into menacing metal beasts. He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. The DNA results had arrived this morning, a bland PDF file that had somehow managed to unravel his entire sense of self.

He’d known he was adopted. But the test… it had revealed his biological father was a man who lived in the next town over, a man he'd crossed paths with a dozen times, at the grocery store, at the gym. A man who was married with kids.
