The weight of the silver locket felt heavy in her hand. Emily turned it over and over, examining the delicate engravings. It held a picture of her mother when she was young. Her grandmother had given it to her mother, and she had given it to Emily.

Her uncle's words, "It's a valuable piece," still echoed in her ears. He was determined to sell it. She felt a deep, throbbing ache in her temples. The air seemed to be thin, making it difficult to breathe. She closed her eyes, trying to block out the reality. She knew what was coming, and she felt completely powerless.
