Gemotions

The phone had rung earlier. A wrong number. Now, the package sat on the doorstep like a silent challenge. He could almost feel the weight of it, even from inside the house. It was addressed to "Mr. Silas Blackwood," the previous occupant. He knew, by the way it felt, that it was not what he thought.

He glanced at the clock. Time seemed to have stalled. He felt a throbbing sensation behind his eyes. He slowly opened the door. The delivery driver had already left. The package sat there, looking innocent.

He took the box inside and sat it on the table. He took a deep breath, and then another. He ripped it open. Inside was a small, velvet box. He didn't want to open it. But he did. And he was shocked by what he found.
