Gemotions

The phone vibrated in her hand. Sarah looked at the caller ID: “Construction Company.” Her pulse leaped. She ignored the call, staring out the window at the familiar facade of her childhood home. A knot formed in her stomach, and she found herself clenching and unclenching her fists.

The sunlight streamed through the dusty windows, illuminating dancing motes of dust. She remembered summers spent chasing fireflies, the smell of honeysuckle in the air. Now, the air hung heavy with the impending sense of loss.

She felt the urge to run, to escape this looming devastation.
